Homage to the illustration drawn by Charles Ince during the siege of 1758, and engraved numerous times by other artistes, with the harbour and outlying Gabarus Bay filled with war ships, explosions on Battery Island (a.k.a. Goat Island), and soldiers dragging cannons. The foundation stones of the original lighthouse -- the first in Canada -- can be seen in the photo at the small sharp rise at the immediate left touching the new (third) Louisbourg light. Ince's drawing curiously depicts massive uplifting boulders on the rise to the right of the light, giving the impression of rocks rising at least as high as the top of the old lighthouse. It could be the artist's license; it could be perspective exaggeration; it could be those same rocks have since been levelled. The rest of Ince's illustration is remarkably accurate.
