A few wise words from scientist and philosopher Albert Jacquard:
(My translation from French)
- "To realize that we do not understand something is the beginning of intelligence. Every time we say "I don't understand!" we shouldn't say "What an imbecile I am!". We should say: "Not only do I not understand, but I know it!". But the fact that you know it, gives you a chance to become more intelligent."
- When someone declares that he/she does not understand, he/she helps everyone. It invites the question: "What is it that you don't understand?". In his/her attempt to explain what he/she doesn't understand he/she begins a process towards understanding.
- "The effort required to "understand" is often extremely exhausting. The justification for this effort is in the final satisfaction "understanding" provides."
- "I have two enemies: The wind which blows against me, and the water which prevents me from moving forward. Thanks to these, I go where I please."
